I kept thinking about that 2 is one thing and it made me think of a character from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Her name is Jadzia Dax and she is an alien that carries a symbiont which is a separate sentient species on its own which is meant to have a symbiotic relationship to its host. After she would die, the symbiont would be removed and given to the next host but still carry her memories. So, in a way, while its not romantic, that's a very sci fi way to have two people equal. The symbiont has an extremely long life span so it would go from host to host carrying all their memories and essentially immortalizing them. I don't know how close this comparison to what the poem is talking about but it made me think of it.

Oh Yeah I feel like I dimly remember that. Isn’t there also a moment where like maybe the symbiote was a guy and then it was in a woman and then someone who knew it in guy form is very accepting of the woman form and its like a kind of primer on how to deal with trans people?
DeleteI think so. There are 2 episodes with that premise. Many cite for how its a good metaphor for trans people. For example, I think someone called her by the name of a former host and she asked them to use her own name and they respected that immediately.

Yeah thats cool right? I don’t do Star Trek in any form cause I find it intimidating — there are TOO MANY EPISODES AT THIS POINT AND IT FEELS TOO LATE FOR ME TO START
DeleteHaha that's fair. I watched the original series when I was a kid and then got curious about the other series later so it was easier for me to get into it. There's literally 7 series and 12 movies so I get why it would be intimidating.

Oh my god, that was a beautiful hidden meaning. If I was able to meet anyone from the dead... I'll be hanging with Shakespeare. Such a great poem!
ReplyDeleteYay!
DeleteIt’s a fun thing to think about! I love this poem so much!
